Gamma Sigma Epsilon Chemistry Honor Society

Gamma Sigma Epsilon Chemistry Honor Society

GGC was accepted as the newest chapter, Mu Zeta chapter, of Gamma Sigma Epsilon in January 2020!

Gamma Sigma Epsilon is a national chemistry honor society founded in 1919 at Davidson College. The original fraternity was created to promote academic excellence and undergraduate research scholarship in chemistry. In 1931 the fraternity went co-ed and became an honor society. Today there are over seventy active Gamma Sigma Epsilon chapters throughout the United States. The Society is governed by a National Executive Council of elected officers and meets in biennial conventions for the purpose of governance, fellowship, and scientific exchange. There are many leadership and scholarship opportunities as well as community service projects that will build up your resume. More information can be found at http://www.gammasigmaepsilon.org/index.html.

A virtual induction ceremony for the eight charter members of the chapter was held on October 2020. The executive officer from national affiliation, Dr. Richard Macri, Provost, Dr. T. J. Arant, Chair of faculty, Dr. Joseph Sloop, Chair of studies, Dr. Patrice Bell and other chemistry faculty joined the induction ceremony to acknowledge the academic excellence of students in chemistry at GGC.

The eight charter members are: Sayka Islam, Purva Lotwala, Jesurebor Ivbaze, Jacob Miller, Madeline Faass, Young Kim (graduated), Russell Sumling (graduated), and Febechi Thomas (graduated).

Congratulations to GGC Chemistry and these charter members on the establishment of this new honor society!
