Social Psychology Courses
Social Psychology – Comprehensive course at the beginning or advanced undergraduate level. Introduces students to the scientific study of social behaviors. Successful completion will demonstrate proficiency in:
- General understanding of major topics in social psychology
- Methodological background of social psychology
- Understanding importance of social, cultural, and individual issues behind life events
- Apply principles of social psychology to everyday situations and contemporary issues
Social Cognition – Comprehensive course at either advanced undergraduate or graduate level. Introduces students to the theoretical perspective that examines how thoughts interact with the environment to produce behaviors. Successful completion will demonstrate proficiency in:
- Understanding of major topics including: automatic versus controlled processing, attention and encoding, memory, the self, attribution, heuristic, attitudes and persuasion, stereotyping and prejudice, affect and cognition, and behavior and cognition.
- Implementing methodology used in social cognitive research
- Applying principles of social cognition to everyday situations and contemporary issues
Consumer Psychology – Comprehensive course at either advanced undergraduate or beginning graduate level. Introduces students to the scientific study of the utilization of goods and services. Successful completion will demonstrate proficiency in:
- Effects of advertisements, and product attributes on consumer internal process responses
- Interrelationship between perception, cognition, memory, emotion and motivation in consumers
- Relationships between intentions and behaviors among consumers
- Effects of social and cultural context on consumers
