Writing session for a proposed IEE goal supporting creative expression. Building on previous work on the IEE goals we worked with the Dean to refine our ideas for an IEE goal that more fully supported creative expression as a meaningful part of the GGC educational goals. Concepts and concerns discussed: IEE goals should describe the ideal GGC candidate rather than serve as a check box; write the goal for the future rather than the current situation of the arts; should be simple and focused, possible testable or documented in some way; students should “demonstrate” rather than “understand;” our common focus is on Aesthetic concerns, expression, personal development, and communication; focus on individual experiences but global understanding; tied to long-term learning, or developing long-term learning; other goals empathy, development of self. We learned from Dean Santos that another group is working on developing IEE goal more closely tied to social sciences/ethics. Thanks to Stacy Rusnak for shepherding this over the course of the Academic Year.
