GGC Scholar Minutes- April 13, 2017

Summary of the Year- Discussed, edited, and completed a proposed IEE Goal for Creativity (Stacy Rusnak). Created survey for students documenting previous Arts experience and interests while at GGC, focused on First Year Students (Catherine Moore). Two separate meetings with Dean Santos concerning Arts at GGC, including discussion of IEE goal, resources, and philosophical approach. Refined our understanding of our role at GGC and the role of creativity in a GGC education.
Final meeting- discussed classroom experiences this year and previous experiences. How we altered teaching (technique and materials) in response to differing situations, this semester and previously, both at GGC and at previous institutions. Agreed it would be valuable to keep meeting 2017-18 Academic year with a focus on teaching and support.
Specific challenges discussed: Student Motivation/Engagement; Best Practices (cell phone use/distraction); experiences at other institutions, character of student body, etc… the struggle to find appropriate themes for our students; disciplinary problems.
