This Week (and next month) in Digital Learning
In addition to the Technonauts discussion (see my previous post), I introduced two new workshops this week, an Introduction to Augmented Reality (in which Dr. David Kerven provided a demonstration of how he has used the Aurasma app in his classes) and an Introduction to Virtual Reality (in which we all got to play with the Oculus Rift in the Digital Media Lab). Although attendance has been down this semester, I think a good time was had by all who showed up for these sessions.
Due to the SRFIDC conference next week and spring break the following week, I won’t be doing any more workshops until late March. The second monthly Technonauts discussion is scheduled for Tuesday, March 14th, however, and Dr. Wendy Dustman has graciously (and tentatively) agreed to kick things off by talking about some of her technology-based experiments in the classroom.
I’ll be presenting another Intro to Virtual Reality session on Monday, March 20th (in which I hope we’ll be able to test drive the HTC Vive and Microsoft HoloLens in addition to the Oculus Rift), followed by an Introduction to Virtual Worlds workshop on Tuesday, March 21st (in which we’ll get some hands-on experience on GGC Island in the virtual world of Second Life). The Intro to Virtual Worlds workshop will be repeated on Wednesday, March 29th, followed by a repeat of the Introduction to Augmented Reality on Thursday, March 30th.
