About GGC’s Academic Commons

The Academic Commons is a virtual community of practice intended to support digital scholarship and digital citizenship at Georgia Gwinnett College. The Commons is an online environment (based on the WordPress platform) that allows GGC faculty, staff, and students to collaborate and share their research, scholarship, interests, teaching successes, and learning experiences with their peers and colleagues here at GGC and around the world. The Commons also provides a platform for displaying faculty badges earned through the CTE’s badging initiative, and for establishing a digital identity, allowing faculty, staff, and students to create, maintain, and control their own digital narrative.

 

Getting Started on the Academic Commons

Complete the following steps to get started on the Academic Commons:

  • Log in with your GGC user ID and password; this will automatically create a profile for you on the Commons
  • Update your profile (through the profile menu in the upper right corner)
  • Request a personal site to use as your home page and blog

If you would like for us to set up a new group for you (with a group blog and forum), fill out a new group request.

If you are not currently employed by or enrolled at GGC but have had an account set up for you on the Commons, you can log in here.

Our Mission Statement

The Academic Commons of Georgia Gwinnett College is designed to support faculty initiatives for teaching and learning through the use of technology. An open and free exchange of knowledge among colleagues across disciplines and institutions is the core to equipping twenty-first century students for our modern world and expanding professional development opportunities for faculty in research and teaching. Faculty can showcase their own research or a class project with their students to add to public scholarship. The Academic Commons is a dynamic hub of teaching and learning scholarship for the ever-evolving nature of Higher Education. In this sense it is designed to be flexible and scaleable. This community will help prepare Georgia Gwinnett College for the future of education.
