US Army soldiers will soon wear Microsoft’s HoloLens AR goggles in combat

Interesting augmented reality news: Microsoft has won a $480 million deal to supply more than 100,000 augmented reality HoloLens headsets to the US Army. The technology will be adapted to incorporate night vision, thermal sensing, offer hearing protection, monitor for concussion and measure vital signs like breathing and “readiness.”

Join the 2018 – 2019 Digital Learning Community!

The 2018-2019 Digital Learning Community is a year-long faculty learning community focused on the effective use of digital technologies for teaching and learning. This community is a natural evolution of the CTE’s Digital Learning Track. Originally a series of traditional face-to-face sessions, the Digital Learning workshops have been gradually moving to an online self-paced format over the last few semesters. The Digital Learning Community combines the resources available in these online workshops with the collaborative potential of the Academic Commons…

What’s New in Digital Learning

What’s New in Digital Learning

Welcome back, everyone! I wanted to let you all know about some changes to the workshops in the Digital Learning track that are being implemented this semester. In an effort to make these workshops more accessible, convenient, and meaningful, I’m piloting a new hybrid (blended) format for three of the DL workshops this fall. At this point, the Commons seems to be as responsive as you would expect…

I would like to take a quick look back at this semester, however, and talk about what worked well and what we may be able to improve next year. First of all, I think that the Technonauts discussions, although not…

Next Week in Digital Learning (Apr 10 – 14)

Next week I’ll be facilitating the last Technonauts discussion of the semester on Wednesday, April 12th at 10:00 a.m. Dr. Wendy Dustman will kick off the conversation by talking about some of the ways that she has been using technology to engage students and facilitate learning in her courses. All of the discussions this semester have been interesting, engaging, and entertaining, so don’t miss this last one! I’m thinking about scheduling these sessions twice a month in the fall to…
