Mallia is an experienced educator and Associate Professor of Chemistry at Georgia Gwinnett College in Lawrenceville, with a proven track record of leadership, management skills, and commitment to higher education. He has an exemplary record of outstanding research, teaching, and student advocacy. Mallia has demonstrated experience in successfully establishing various award-winning programs, events, and outreach activities that benefit higher education and the community. He is a long-time active leader of the American Chemical Society at the national, divisional, regional, and local levels, and a certified facilitator of the ACS leadership development system.
Mallia’s research interests include the design and synthesis of organic functional soft materials, with applications in pharmaceutically active molecules, self-healing materials, green solvents, ionic liquids, molecular gels, and liquid crystals.
In recognition of his significant contributions to providing scientific research opportunities for undergraduate and high school students from underrepresented and economically disadvantaged backgrounds, excellence in undergraduate teaching, and leadership at the American Chemical Society, Mallia has been inducted as a member of the Fellows of the American Chemical Society. He has also received numerous awards and honors, including the Georgia Gwinnett College Outstanding Faculty Service Award (2022), the American Chemical Society National Outreach Volunteer of the Year Award (2020), the Georgia Gwinnett College Top Claw Award (2019), the Georgia Gwinnett College Scholarship and Creativity Award (2019), the E. Ann Nalley Award for volunteer service to the American Chemical Society (2014), the Inoue Foundation of Science Award in Japan (2004), the Japan Society for Promotion of Science Fellowship, Japan (2002), and the Council for Science and Industrial Research Fellowship, India.
