Mallia is an associate professor of chemistry at Georgia Gwinnett College, Lawrenceville. Mallia’s research interests include design and studies of functional organic soft materials (gels, liquid crystals, and polymers), and metal nanoparticles. Mallia’s research work has appeared as a cover feature in many flagship journals, including the Journal of the American Chemical Society, Chemical Society Reviews, and Langmuir. He has published 45 peer-reviewed publications, 5 patents (granted/applied), and presented his research work at various national and international conferences.
Mallia is an active leader at the national, regional and local levels of the American Chemical Society (ACS). Mallia held various leadership positions at ACS-Georgia and the ACS-Chemical Society of Washington. In recognition of providing significant research opportunities for undergraduate and HS students from under-represented/economically disadvantaged backgrounds and his leadership at ACS, Mallia has been selected as a member of the Fellows of the American Chemical Society. For his volunteer service to the American Chemical Society, Mallia was awarded national outreach volunteer of the year Award (2020), E. Ann Nalley regional award (2014), and outstanding local section volunteer award (Chemical Society of Washington, 2014).
